The Red Mountain Ski Resort’s terrain sprawls over three mountains. These include:
The resort features about 3,850 acres of skiable terrain, with 110 marked trails situated on 890 meters of vertical. The highest lifted point on the resort is 2,075 meters while the lowest point is 1,185 meters.
The ski field’s 120 kilometers of skiable slopes have the following stats:
From these stats, the Red Mountain Ski Resort terrain is more skewed towards advanced riders and intermediates. The terrain includes features such as wide-open bowls, cut pistes, tight tree skiing, and glades.
The Red Mountain Resort’s terrain has only one limitation. It can be hard to navigate and find your way around the double and single black diamond terrain. To help thrill-seekers find their way, the resort offers a complimentary tour. This tour orients visitors on the lifts and terrain and tells the eager riders the history of the resort and the mountain.
First-time skiers begin at the magic carpet near the base of the resort. Then, when they feel more confident, they should hit the slopes off the Silverlode chair, and finally, runs at the Motherlode chair.
Novice skiers and snowboarders can also explore the slopes at the Granite and Grey mountains. However, it can be hard for them to find their way around the mountain. In addition, these slopes are not isolated and beginners don’t have dedicated ski areas where they can learn in peace.
This resort has great blue slopes for intermediate riding. The best of these slopes have wide cruisers where rides can get used to off-piste skiing as well as tree riding. These slopes can be accessed via the Paradise and Motherlode chairs. The blue slopes also have beautiful tree-lined runs.
These slopes have plenty of opportunities for intermediate riders to advance to more challenging advanced slopes.
The resort has a small terrain park located near the base of the mountain. It has pleasant features such as table-top jumps, boxes, and rails that excite revelers of all abilities and levels.
To complement the small terrain park, the resort’s slopes have park-like features including boulders that daring intermediates and advanced riders can take on.
The advanced riding slopes, especially those at the Red Towers, attract attention-seeking riders who are more than happy to perform tricks to an eager audience. There’s also thrilling black terrain accessible via the Motherlode chair and it’s not for the faint of heart. In addition, there are tree skiing opportunities on these slopes for snow lovers who’d like a bit of privacy as they shred powder.
On either side of the Motherlode chair, there are excellent expert terrains. To the right, expert riders delight in steep pitches, lots of drop-offs, and tight trees on the slopes at Pale Face. To the right of the lift, there are great slide runs that are on avalanche-prone slopes which also have large moguls.
The Red Mountain also has great expert features, although the best slopes are to be found on Granite hill. The Granite section also receives plenty of snow on runs such as Coolers. This area has tight trees, chutes, and steep cliffs that give the terrain a gnarly, backcountry feel. However, please note that this section requires you to carry safety equipment, and even so, it’s pretty much at your own risk.
Snowcat Riding at Red Mountain
The resort offers daily snowcat rides to the top of Grey Mountain. If you’re willing to pay a little bit more, you can hop on to a snowcat and access up to 200 acres of terrain in the Mt Kirkup area. These slopes have interesting features such as tree skiing, as well as off-piste opportunities.
The Red Mountain Ski Resort has a network of 7 lifts that conveniently ferry thrill-seekers up the mountain. These lifts include 6 chairlifts and a surface lift, as well as a snowcat.
