The resort has 86 acres of skiable terrain, which is quite small and thus easy to orient yourself. It has 17 runs situated on a 110-meter vertical. Mt Baw Baw lift system consists of only surface lifts, with no chairlifts. The 7 lifts include 3 T-bars and 3 platter lifts. The named lifts include the following:

  • Maltese Cross T-Bar – This T-bar lift travels a length of 400 meters and has a carrying capacity of 1,000 riders per hour
  • Summit T-bar – This T-bar can also carry 1,000 people per hour and travels a distance of 600 meters
  • Painted T-bar – This T-bar lift only covers 300 meters and has the capacity to ferry 800 riders every hour.
  • Tank Hill Platter – This is a J-bar that is 250 meters long and can ferry up to 700 people per hour
  • Big Hill Poma – This J-bar has a carrying capacity of 700 riders every hour and travels a distance of 300 meters.
  • Hot Run Platter – This is a J-bar with the capacity to ferry up to 700 riders across a distance of 400 meters every hour

Getting To The Resort

How To Get to Mt Baw Baw Ski Resort

The resort is situated in the mountains of the Baw Baw national park. It is the closest resort to Melbourne, which is 177 kilometers away, along the Prices Highway which is the shortest route. The drive from Melbourne to Mt Baw Baw Ski Resort is approximately 2.5 hours along the Princes Highway.

The resort is also 68 kilometers to the north of Moe in Gippsland and about 50 kilometers away from the town of Noojee. The resort lies to the south of Buller and further southwest of Hotham and Falls Creek.

The closest airport to the resort is the Melbourne International Airport. Here you’ll find several transfer options. You can also take a train ride and exit at the train the Moe Train Station.

Driving to Mt Baw Baw Ski Resort

There are three different options to get to the resort depending on where you’re coming from.

  1. Through Neerim South – Drive up along the Princes Highway and exit at Drouin. Towards the end of this route, you get to a narrow and winding road known as Tourist Road. Proceed to Noojee, Tajil Bren, and Icy Creek until you get to the ski resort. When you get here, you’ll find snow chain rental services to help you to scale the incline safely.
  2. Via Lilydale and Yarra Junction – This is the most favorable route if you’re coming from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
  3. Through Rawson – If coming from the west, drive up the Princes Highway and take an exit at Moe, or at Traralgon if you’re hailing from the eastern end. Towards the last part of the road, you’ll come up at a section of a less windy unsealed road that extends for 27 kilometers known as the South Face Road.

To enter the ski field, resort entry fees apply and these are comparable to those charged by Hotham and Falls Creek.

The local administration requires that all vehicles carry snow chains even if you don’t want them fitted. You can hire snow chains and also have them fitted at the resort’s entrance. Otherwise, you may hire them at shops in Erica, Neerim South, Icy Creek, Noorjee, and Tanjil Bren.

Mt Baw Baw Village is car-free and cars are not allowed past the designated parking lot. However, parking for day trippers is closer to the slopes.

Before driving up to the ski field, ensure you fill up your vehicle with fuel as there is no fuel station at the resort.

Taking a Bus Ride to Mt Baw Baw

The ski field offers daily bus rides from Moe train station. Bus companies also run special scenic day trips from Melbourne and certain other locations. If you’re traveling as a group or with your family, you may book a private transfer.
